help to spell and know the word is the correct one

my initial thinking on how to spell a certain word?

this addition information is so useful in checking the meaning

Monday 25 July 2016

what have i written?

being at school,

everyone possibly has a story at school as to how and why their dyslexia or similar disability affecting schooling and mine is from writing down homework at the end of the lesson

so this meant me trying to write down what the teacher said at the end of the lesson, and then me reading my own hand writing of lots of badly written English which was not legible by anyone including me :-(

Spell checkers don't say if the usage of the word is wrong

So many times I write a word not realising have done that, so I either Google the word to check actual meaning or use my favourite dinosaur in Word (thesaurus ๐Ÿ˜)

Checking spelling

It possibly sounds really easy in the digital world we live to spell correctly, but as a dyslexic there are a few things to understand

1. You need to know how to start a word in order to spell it (will explain that better another day๐Ÿ˜)

2. Spell check will not say if the wrong word has been used in the sentence, but it's spelt correctly

Just to say Google search it the best way to find out how to spell a word, also if suggests as you type, wish I had that while at school
"It's not all bad"

It's going to be ok, we should really say this more often, because it usually is๐Ÿ˜Š Once we think or know we have disability (which dyslexia is classed as in the uk) it can seem like you are pigeonholed that is the future is known!!!

We it is not no one knows the future we can intelligently predict some of it but not for certain so, what you do can make a difference always remember that
How do you know? I am old enough to remember a time when dyslexia did not have a name to be honest no one really knew or even thought to ask

How would or could it have helped?

Think of it like an illness, if you know what it is you can treat it? Yep sounds too simple but it's so useful to know, I do wonder how different the world for me would have been๐Ÿค”

Thinking about asking other dyslexics about their own reading experiences?

Feel free to write back with thoughts or ideas if you think those are the questions I should be asking??

1. Do you read for pleasure or for work related reasons?
2. What is your favourite genre and why?
3.  When you read a book, can you picture the story in your head ?
4. Do you often need to re-read a chapter in order to understand what is going on?
5. Are you able to remember characters and plot lines with ease? If not, why?
6. Would do you feel would make reading easier for you?

A) line spacing?
B. ) colour ?
C ) audio?
D) storyboard?
E) all of the above
F) other

7. If you chose 'other', what would you recommend?

8. What aspects make a book make it harder for you to follow and enjoy?

A) too many characters
B ) too much detail
C) words spaced too closely together
D) all of the above
E) other

8. If you chose 'other', please explain:

9. Have you been able to finish a story? Or has dyslexia made it too much effort to do so?

10. Do you prefer comics over standard books? Explain your answer:
we say the words we think are written and not what is actually on the page, this is such an excellent example of how the brain can complete words almost without us knowing, (ok I definitely have trouble reading this fast๐Ÿ˜”)
Had to rewrite the start after reading it back, apologies if my words made no sense ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜”
have a read
Writing as you think of the words I think is the most creative way to have words flow from your mind, I always find I am most expressive and imaginative when doing this, however I always need to remember to actually read the words aloud in my head as I read them back.

I never really was very diligent in my much younger years at catching my bad typos, so I used to read many incomprehensible sentences, which I doubt anyone could have read :-(

Apologies in advance if I do that in this blog๐Ÿ˜

Wednesday 20 July 2016

while i feel like writing i am going to add some thoughts,

wish i could read books (fictional stories really) for people who can read books.

i am quite jealous of just picking one up and reading it cover to cover.

Now that possibly sounds strange when i am writing this? as i can obviously read and write but following a story in a book is a totally different experience. i will try and explain better as i write this blog
if you are not a dyslexic try reading this?

how i see the written word sometimes

thinking this through, you have the idea, but describing it will give away the concept to others, how to define it enough to be interesting, but not with that much detail it explains what it is?

"conundrum"

That word suits it well

creative idea

having an idea, almost feels the easy part when you start contemplating the task ahead

a start

where to start? always a good question that deserves an answer
